Video games have a significant toll on a computer's performance, especially if you try to run recent ones on older machines. Game Assistant can give your computer a performance boost. Though it doesn't enable obsolete machines run the latest games, it can give modern-day computers that extra edge they need to run games more smoothly. The program serves as a games organizer as well and it comes with other useful features as well.

Game Assistant is offered as a freeware program and it can be used on the latest Windows version (Win 8.1) and on previous versions as well, down to Windows XP. Installing the software shouldn't be a lengthy chore, even for inexperienced users. The hardware requirements are modest and there is no need to install any prerequisite tools.

Managing video games with Game Assistant is significantly easier and more comfortable than doing so in Windows Explorer. The software can scan for game executables on your hard drive and it will automatically display them on its compact user interface, together with their full names and icons. Alternatively, you can add games manually, by browsing for their executables on a standard Open dialog.

Once your games are imported, you may start categorizing them on separate tabs if you want to. Tabs can be created and named manually and you only need to drag an icon and drop it over a tab to send it there. It should be fairly obvious that games can be launched by simply clicking their icons.

The software can boost a computer's performance on demand or automatically. The Boost button is available at all times on the lower edge of the user interface and it takes a single click to start the process. Essentially, the program will boost the performance by defragmenting the RAM, shutting down non-critical processes and applying recommended system settings, for optimal performance. If you don't want to shut down specific programs when boosting, you can remove it from the targets list in the general settings menu.

Besides starting a system boost manually, it is also possible to set Game Assistant to boost the system automatically when you launch a game. Furthermore, the software can help you prevent damage to your computer. It comes with built-in temperature monitors, for your CPU and GPU and you can see their readings in a graph, on a separate tab. Another useful feature is the possibility of displaying the temperatures while playing games. The best part is that Game Assistant can also play warning sounds if the temperature is exceeding a user-defined threshold.

Pros

You can organize your games and launch them faster. The software can defragment your RAM and perform other tasks to boost your computer's performance. It also comes with temperature monitors and warning features.

Cons

There are no obvious drawbacks to point out. Choppy frame rates in video games and the risk of damaging your computer while playing won't be a problem while using Game Assistant.
